Flat Fee MLS Listings and LockboxesTypes of Lockboxes When you put your home in the Realtor MLS using our Flat Fee MLS Listing, it is stongly encouraged that you put a lockbox on your door. We offer the Sentrilock and Supra lockboxes. These are the two types of lockboxes used by agents in the Virginia, Maryland and DC areas. There are also a variety of combination lockboxes that you can purchase at a local hardward store - however we do not recommend them - see below for why. Why do I need a Lockbox on my door? You want to make it convenient for buyers to view your home. Remember, most home buyers work - so be flexible - let them see your home early in the morning or later in the evening. Yes - it is a hassle and it is inconvenient - but the easier you make it for buyers - the sooner you will sell your home. If an agent has a buyer in their office right now - they do not want to have to call you to make an appointment for you to be home to let them in - they would prefer to move on to another home that does have a lockbox and is convenient for them to show to their client. Why should I not use a Combo Lockbox? Often agents will be on the road with their clients that are looking to buy a home. They may not have your phone number and they may not have your listing in front of them to call to get the combo. You do not want to make it difficult for an agent to show your home. When there is a sentrilock or supra lockbox on the door - the agent can use their key to open the box to get into your home to show it. But I am always home - do I still need a lockbox on my door? No one can always be home - you must go to the grocery store and run errands and eat out occasionally. We all have lives to live. The more convenient you make it for the buyer the sooner you can get back to a normal life.
